Today’s modern workforce has varied reputation in the workplace. Among the most prevalent of these stereotypes is that they have a serious problem communicating–or doing much of anything–without using some type of technology as a crutch. While this is often the case, some are not incapable of learning what it means to do work that has nothing to do with phones, computers or other technological buffers to their interaction with other live human beings. After all, the generation of today’s workforce is thought to have a higher average IQ than previous ones, so they have no excuse to lag behind in anything requiring additional learning.

Learning to be Human
Naturally, we all know how to be human. What a lot of people who think today’s workforce have no idea about living offline forget is that even the most connected individuals still spend most of their first few years doing nothing more active with technology than flipping TV channels and turning on the light –which is no different than how the past several generations have been brought up. So at heart, those judged as technology slaves have as much ability to communicate with their coworkers as representatives from any other generation do. The trick is to uncover these abilities in our future leaders.
It’s a Slow Process

The process of going from constantly connected to selectively connected is a problem no previous generation has had to face in the past, and today’s modern workforce is facing a learning curve. For instance, recruitment agencies, such as Accounting Principals finance staffing agency, hires younger workers through both offline and online channels, but requires many of its staffers to report to their workplaces in-person. This combination allows people to be both comfortable with the method of working and to expand into being more in-person focused, as the situation requires. While slow, younger workforce are showing excellent adaptive skills as they mature.
Accelerating the Process
While getting the modern workforce up to the same interpersonal communication skill level as older workers is a long and slow process, it’s extremely valuable in every area of your company. Just like technical skills, interpersonal skills are at the forefront of growing and running any business, so this is an investment of time and energy that you can’t afford not to make. While it may seem bizarre to take away people’s technology and force them to work in a way they aren’t used to, the ultimate benefits are more than worth it.
