Families Figuring Out How To Pay For College – NPR’s Talk of the Nation

“It’s decision time for high school seniors who’ve applied to college and received acceptance letters. And as tuition levels rise, especially at top-level private schools, a growing number of financial experts are warning students to steer clear of student loan debt.”

Yesterday’s Talk of the Nation on NPR featured guest host Lynn Neary moderating questions about families figuring out how they will pay for college. The questions were answered by the two guest experts. McAllen ISD college readiness, high school program links

All seniors apply for college during Take the Leap to College Success

Making sure all seniors have applied to a college or university. That’s the goal for an annual event called Take the Leap to College Success.

It’s scheduled on Wednesday, Oct. 12 for high school seniors in McAllen ISD. College, University and McAllen ISD staff will help seniors complete college/scholarship applications, view presentations on college admissions and learn information on placement exams, financial aid and student life.

Presenters from the University of Texas-Pan American and South Texas College will touch on college readiness topics. Students will be going on-line to apply at UTPA and STC at a minimum and may apply at other schools of their choice. By filling in their bio information with the Apply Texas website, , they can cut and paste the same data into multiple college and university websites across Texas. App
